Terpene Mixing Instructions

Mixing Instructions

Terpenes are aromatic compounds that add flavor and effect. These compounds can be added to various products to create synergy according to your personal preference.

Here are the most common methods of mixing our terpenes. Please remember that these are just starting points. More may be required. You can always add more, but you can’t take away once added, so start small. Personal preference is the ultimate guide.

 

VAPE CARTRIDGES

Making cartridges can be very technical and will require trial and error to find your perfect balance. The outcome is highly dependent on your hardware, quality of starting product, and your goals.

Plastic Cartridges are limited to adding a maximum of 6% terpenes as plastic can have a negative reaction. Poor quality plastic can give a burned taste!

Making Plastic Cartridges with a Non-Winterized Product: Shatter, Wax, Rosin, etc

This is not the best way to make cartridges but it can be done successfully. The cleaner the wax, the better. But this method can be finnicky due to the nature of the product.

1. With 1 gram of concentrate (scale as needed, the ratios will be the same)

2. Heat using a magnetic stirrer/ hot plate. If you do not have these readily available, use the following Microwave Technique- Put your concentrate in a Pyrex beaker and microwave for 10-15 seconds. Open the door to pause for 2 seconds. Heat again for 10-15 seconds. Repeat until the product is liquid and runny.
   

Depending on the product amount and the wattage of the microwave this should take 2-5 minutes approximately.

*Avoid water baths, which can lead to glass breakage and contamination.

3. Use a 1:1 ratio, mix 1 gram of your heated product with 1 gram of a cutting agent. Stir for 1-2 minutes, until mixed thoroughly in the warm beaker.

4. Add up to 6% maximum of your favorite terpene. In this case, 2 grams of mixed product, add 0.12 grams (approximately 6 drops with our glass dropper.)

5. Stir for 1 minute.

6. Let the final mix sit for 12-24 hours in its beaker.

7. If the final mix is consistently mixed with little to no wax at the bottom of the beaker, then you are done and ready to fill your cartridge.

8. If the final mix is waxy at the bottom, try heating it up again to melt if you think you didn’t heat it up correctly the first time. Let it sit for another 24 hours after reheating.

9. Otherwise, use a mesh strainer to filter the final mix or simply avoid the bottom wax with your syringe. Fill your cartridge.

10. Let the filled cartridge sit for 12-24 hours to allow the wick to fully absorb before using.

Making Plastic Cartridges with De-Waxed Products: Distillate/Clear

Plastic cartridges must be cut with a a cutting agents as most distillate is too thick

1. With 1 gram distillate (scale up as needed, the ratios will be the same)

2. Heat using a magnetic stirrer/ hot plate. If you do not have these readily available, use the following Microwave Technique- Put your concentrate in a Pyrex beaker and microwave for 10-15 seconds. Open the door to pause for 2 seconds. Heat again for 10-15 seconds. Repeat until the product is liquid and runny. This is now ready to mix with your cutting agent.

Depending on the product amount and the wattage of the microwave this should take 2-5 minutes approximately.

3. Stir for 1-2 minutes and until clear. If it is foggy or hazy, heat up the product more.

4. Cut it 20% by adding a cutting agent If it is a very viscous and thick oil you may use more. Example: 1 gram of distillate, add 0.20 grams of your cutting agent. Total mix is now 1.20 grams.

5. Add your favorite terpene. (Starting point: 6% terpenes.) In our example, multiply 6% by 1.2 grams. Add .07 grams of terpenes (approximately 3-4 drops with our glass dropper)

Making Glass Cartridges with a Non-Winterized Product: Shatter, Wax, Rosin, etc.

Follow the same instructions as above but you can use a higher percentage of terpenes if desired, up to 8%.

Non-wick cartridges can be used after 1 hour to allow the product to make full contact with the atomizer.

Making Glass Cartridges with De-Waxed Products: Distillate/Clear

Follow the same instructions as above but you can use a higher percentage of terpenes if desired, 8-20%. 10% is usually the sweet spot although we know of companies who use 20% depending on the hardware.

Cartridges and color change – Remember, distillate will naturally oxidize and certain terpenes may affect the color.

Uncut

For people who want the highest quality product with distillate, simply add 10% terpenes after heating your product and mix thoroughly. You do not need to cut it with a cutting agent.

ISOLATE (UNFLAVORED)

Starting point: 2% by weight.

Example: 1 gram of product, add 0.02 grams (Approximately 1 drop with our provided glass dropper)

SHATTER, WAX, ROSIN, ETC.

Starting point: 2% by weight.

Example: 1 gram of product, add 0.02 grams (Approximately 1 drop with our provided glass dropper)

FLOWERS/BUDS

Starting point: 2% by weight.

Example: 1 gram of product, add 0.02 grams (Approximately 1 drop with our provided glass dropper)

Alternate use: Spray buds using a pump sprayer (Always use glass, or an approved HDPE plastic sprayer to avoid undesirable reactions.)

Example: Use a light even spray that does not fully saturate the flower, gently toss in an enclosed container to cure.

LOTIONS, COSMETICS, SCRATCH AND SNIFF STICKERS

Starting point: 5% terpenes by weight.

Example: 1 ounce of lotion (28 grams), add 1.4 grams of terpenes

We recommend using a scale that goes down to at least 0.00.

SPARKLING WATER, CHAMPAGNE, BEVERAGES, ETC.

Starting point: 4-6 drops per Liter

Example: 1 glass of champagne, add 1 drop of your favorite terpene

EDIBLES

Starting point: Depending on the edible, start with .5% by weight and adjust accordingly. We don’t want the terpene to overpower the edible.

Example: Hard candy batch weighing 14 grams, add 0.07 grams of terpenes.
